Robert E. Swint, Sr., M.D.
Founder and President
Dr. Swint is the president and founding member of the Heart Center Medical Group. He was the first board-certified cardiologist in Fort Wayne and the surrounding region when he came to town in 1977. His first office was located in the Duemling Clinic, across from the old Lutheran Hospital on Fort Wayne's south side. During his first year, Dr. Swint performed the very first heart catheterization in northeast Indiana. Born and raised in Fremont, Ohio, Dr. Swint's father was also a physician, practicing for more than 30 years.
After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Detroit in Michigan, Dr. Swint received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. While at Loyola, he was chosen president of his medical class. Dr. Swint then moved across town to Northwestern University at the Evanston Hospital where he completed his internal medicine internship. From there he headed north to the Mayo Clinic and completed his residency program.
From 1972-1974 Dr. Swint served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. He then completed his cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. His board certifications include internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Swint is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the ACC's Council of Geriatric Cardiology, and the American Heart Association's Council of Clinical Cardiology. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Fort Wayne Center for Medical Education. Dr. Swint is a past president of the Fort Wayne Medical Society, and co-founder of the Northeast Indiana Wellness Council.
Along with his wife, Ruth Ann, the Swints live on the southwest side of Fort Wayne. They have three sons.
Dr. Swint's nurse, Jan Hand, was the first employee of the practice and has now been with him for over 20 years.
